The Australian also has a story, and a photo (I suspect it's the old Farrago one), but it's not online.A close relative of runaway businessman Andrew Landeryou has told a court that he believed Mr Landeryou, without his permission, made him a director of two companies and that his signature on a letter to corporate regulators was forged.
Mathew Mason, who is married to Mr Landeryou's sister, said he discovered he was on the companies' boards only when he received a demand from the Australian Securities and Investments Commission to pay corporate fees.
Mr Mason yesterday told the Victorian Supreme Court that when he asked Mr Landeryou why he had been nominated as a director "he said he would fix it".
Asked why he believed Mr Landeryou was behind the bogus directorships, Mr Mason said: "I did not really associate with anybody else who is likely to have done it... So he was the likely candidate.
...
Darren Ray, student union president in 2002, told the court that in November 2002, when he recommended to student councillors that Marbain be handed the bar lease for nothing, he suspected Mr Landeryou and Mr Cass controlled it. Asked why he did not alert fellow councillors to his suspicions, Mr Ray said: "I did not see why that would be of particular relevance."
In a heated exchange, Mr Cass repeatedly claimed the examination was a political conspiracy and that Mr McVeigh was only pursuing deals linked to Labor Party operatives.
He claimed the student union had done "hundreds" of questionable deals and some "very serious transactions have flown under the radar".
But Master Ewan Evans cut him short, saying Mr Cass could have written to ASIC at any time if he had serious concerns about the conduct of the student union affairs or of the liquidator.
The hearing was adjourned.

Matthew Mason told the Victorian Supreme Court yesterday that he had never consented to being a director of the Landeryou company Invest with Integrity, and his signature on company documents was forged.
...
The court also heard that Mr Mason had been named as director of another company secretly controlled by Mr Landeryou - Turning Point Debt Solutions - again, without his knowledge or consent.

I love the way Landeryou's brother in law says basically:
"Well he's the only piece of scum I know that would do it."
Must make family get togethers interesting.
